MANILA, Philippines — Motorists can expect some holiday relief at the pump this week, with diesel prices set to drop by at least P1 per liter ahead of Christmas.

Oil firms are projected to roll back gasoline prices by P0.60 to P0.80 per liter, diesel by P1 to P1.20 per liter and kerosene by around P1.75 per liter, according to industry experts.

The estimates reflect the trading results in the Mean of Platts Singapore over the past days.

Rodela Romero, assistant director at the Department of Energy, traced the anticipated rollback to robust supply and weak demand, which overshadowed “temporary geopolitical spikes.”

“Added to it is an optimism over a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine,” Romero said.

Jetti Petroleum president Leo Bellas said the prospect of a ceasefire between the two countries could pave the way for the eventual restoration of disrupted Russian supply flows.

The final price adjustments will be announced tomorrow and take effect on Dec. 23.

Last Tuesday, gasoline prices climbed by P0.20 per liter, while diesel and kerosene went down by P0.20 per liter.
