MANILA, Philippines — Producer prices rose at a slower pace in April from the previous month, driven mainly by the decline in prices of computer, electronic and optical products, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Preliminary data from the PSA showed that the Producer Price Index (PPI) for manufacturing posted a slower annual increase of 0.1 percent in April from the 0.6 percent growth in March.
The April PPI growth, however, improved compared with the 0.7 percent decline in the same month last year.
PPI tracks the average change in factory gate prices in the local market relative to a base period.
“The slower annual increase of PPI for the manufacturing sector in April 2025 was primarily due to the decline in the annual growth rate of the PPI for manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products industry division at 1.3 percent in April 2025 from 0.9 percent annual increase in March 2025,” the PSA said.
The computer, electronic and optical products industry division contributed 59.3 percent to the slower PPI growth in April.
Also contributing to the slower PPI increase in April 2025 was the slowdown in the growth in manufacture of transport equipment at 0.3 percent in April from the previous month’s 1.5 percent increment.
Another major contributor is the faster decrease of manufacture of basic metals at 0.9 percent in April from the 0.1 percent decline in March.
Of the remaining 19 industry divisions, 12 registered increases, while seven posted decreases in April from March.
Those with positive growth rates are coke and refined petroleum products; food products; beverages; chemical and chemical products; machinery and equipment except electrical; other manufacturing and repair and installation of machinery and equipment; rubber and plastic products; furniture; leather and related products, including footwear; textiles; printing and reproduction of recorded media and paper and paper products.
