MANILA, Philippines — Following the conviction of seven people over the kidnapping of a 78-year-old Chinese businesswoman by a court in Quezon City, the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. or FFCCCII urged the government to sustain its anti-crime efforts.
FFCCCII president Victor Lim said the court ruling on June 30 underscored the country’s commitment to protecting lives and investments, referring to the decision imposing a life imprisonment without parole for the seven accused.
“This efficiency reassures investors and tourists that the Philippines is a safe and just society,” Lim said as he welcomed the court decision.
According to Lim, safety issues have been the source of concern for some tourists and investors, as some reported incidents have shaped perceptions of impunity and cast a shadow over the country’s global image.
