MANILA, Philippines — A Filipino from Brazil was arrested upon arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after NAIA security personnel found 8.194 kilos of cocaine in his check-in luggage.
Authorities said suspicious images were detected during x-ray screening of the passenger’s luggage, prompting a more thorough inspection. When opened, Customs and Inter-agency Drug Interdiction Task Group personnel found the drugs, valued at P43.438 million.
The seized substance was turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Customs-NAIA district collector Yasmin Mapa said the passenger will face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
