Three years into its hiatus, K-pop supergroup BTS is set to be fully free of mandatory South Korean military service

MANILA, Philippines – After nearly three years on hiatus, global K-pop megastar group BTS is set to be completely free from its mandatory South Korean military service as all its seven members — most notably the last four on traditional conscription — are all set for discharge by June 21.

Per the Korea Herald, group leader RM and V will complete their service on Tuesday, June 10, before Jungkook and Jimin follow on Wednesday, June 11.

By June 21, Suga will complete his alternative military service as a social worker, thus marking the first full reunion of the uber popular boy band without any military tie-ups since 2022.

BTS’ agency BigHit Music is getting ahead of an expected avalanche of support from the group’s passionate fan base, requesting that people refrain from visiting the release locations of the four members for their safety.

“Each location has very limited space, and overcrowding can pose safety risks,” read the agency’s statement on Saturday, June 7. “We place the safety of our artists and fans as our top priority and sincerely request our fans not to visit the sites in person.”

“Please convey your warm regards and encouragement in your hearts.”

In relation to this request, neither BTS nor the Korean military will have any sort of public event for the four members, whose releases will coincide with the 2025 BTS Festa — the group’s annual two-week anniversary celebration leading up to its 2013 debut date, June 13.

Prior to RM, V, Jungkook, and Jimin, eldest member Jin kickstarted the band’s military conscription timeline on December 13, 2022, followed by J-Hope on April 18, 2023, and Suga a few months later on September 22.

Jin made history in 2020 as the focal point of a landmark South Korean law amendment, wherein male entertainers like K-pop stars would be allowed to defer its 18 to 21-month military service until the age of 30 — two years beyond the normal range of 18 to 28 years old. – Rappler.com
