CEBU CITY — A major fire broke out in Sitio Panaghiusa, Barangay Carreta, on the eve of the Fiesta Señor and Sinulog Festival, displacing dozens of families and causing an estimated P3.8 million in property damage.
The blaze ignited at approximately 9:09 p.m. on Saturday at a warehouse believed to be storing diesel fuel. Due to the highly flammable materials at the scene, the fire quickly spread.
At 9:18 p.m., firefighters raised the alarm to the second level as the situation intensified.
By 9:58 p.m., the fire reached a fourth alarm.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that the fire spread rapidly, reaching nearby residential areas and affecting 48 people.

At least six structures were completely destroyed, while four others suffered partial damage.
Among those affected were residents of General Maxilom Avenue Extension, and the thick smoke prompted the evacuation of guests from a nearby condotel.
The blaze was declared under control at 10:41 p.m. and was fully extinguished by 11:31 p.m.
While no fatalities were reported, one individual, identified as Rustico Casas Jr., sustained second-degree burns.
BFP investigator FO1 Wendell Villanueva confirmed that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
He said that they are validating reports regarding the possible presence of ammonia at the site.
In response, the Cebu City government, through the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS), extended aid to the affected families. The assistance included intake interviews, assessments, and distribution of three-day meal packs.
Financial support has also been recommended for those displaced.
The fire has left several families, including renters and those sharing residences, to seek shelter with relatives and friends in the area. The city's efforts continue as the investigation into the cause of the devastating fire unfolds.
