The Department of Health-Negros Island Region advises against using firecrackers to welcome the New Year. However, in case of burns or wounds caused by firecrackers, it said these should be washed immediately with antibacterial soap and clean water, and seek immediate medical help at the nearest facility.

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The fireworks-related injuries in Negros Island Region rose to 152 as of yesterday, surpassing last year’s record of 131 cases, according to the Department of Health regional office.
Negros Occidental topped the list with 115 blast injuries recorded, followed by Negros Oriental with 30, Bacolod City with six and Siquijor with one.
Adrian Hort Ramos, assistant regional health director, said many of the victims were under the influence of liquor.
