PALO, Leyte — Former Leyte governor Edgar Mercado Enerlan died of illness at the Our Mother of Mercy Hospital in Tacloban City on April 4, 2025.
He was 85 years old.
His death was announced by his nephew, Burauen councilor Vincent Enerlan.
Enerlan was elected governor in 1992 but was only able to assume office in 1995 after a legal battle with the late governor Leopoldo Petilla.
He was the shortest serving governor of Leyte as he held office for only 16 days.

Enerlan was a legal luminary in Leyte who served as municipal mayor of Burauen from 1968 to 1986 and from 1989 to 1992.
His remains lie in estate at his residence at District 2 in Burauen, Leyte.
