MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has appointed Francis Edralin Lim as the new chairperson of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Lim will succeed Emilio Aquino, who was appointed as SEC chairperson by former president Rodrigo Duterte in 2018.

“I am deeply honored and humbled by the trust and confidence that President Marcos and his team have placed in me through this appointment. I make no grand promises – only that I will put my heart and soul into this important responsibility, guided by the highest strandards of integrity and service, for the good of our country,” Lim, a lawyer, said.

The Securities Regulation Code requires the SEC chairperson to be a lawyer.

Lim was also a former president of the Philippine Stock Exchange Inc. and the Shareholders’ Association of the Philippines. He also served as president of the Management Association of the Philippines in 2020.

He obtained his Bachelor of Laws from Ateneo de Manila University and his Master of Laws from University of Pennsylvania.

Lim actively assisted in the enactment of several Philippine laws, such as Financial Rehabilitation and Insolvency Act, Credit Investment System Act, Real Estate Investment Trust Act, Personal Equity Retirement Account Act and Philippine Competition Act.

He was also a recipient of various awards from several institutions including the “Most Outstanding Alumnus in Private Law Practice” by the Ateneo Law Alumni Association and the “Lawyer of the Year – Philippines” by Benchmark Litigation, Asia-Pacific Awards 2019.
