MANILA, Philippines — Free condoms will be available at Metro Rail Transit (MRT) stations to help curb rising cases of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections, the Philippine National AIDS Council said yesterday.
PNAC executive director Joselito Feliciano said his office recently met with representatives of the MRT management.
Some 10,000 condoms will be accessible to commuters starting on Thursday to raise people’s HIV awareness.
“These will be placed in a specific corner of restrooms at all MRT stations,” Feliciano told The STAR.
“In the corner where they will find the condoms, basic information on its use and why it is important will also be posted. People will not just see the condom there, essential information will come with it,” Feliciano said.
Data showed there were 4,633 newly reported HIV cases in the first quarter.
