Pets and their owners gathered for the first "Furries de Mayo" event held at the Quezon Memorial Circle, inspired by the Flores de Mayo tradition.

According to Katrina Son's report on "24 Oras," Wednesday, the participating pets donned elaborate gowns and headpieces and rode in stylish pet carriers and strollers.

"It's a celebration po ng human-animal bond, 'yung relasyon natin sa alaga natin. And this time po we're celebrating po na ang pets ay hindi lang po siya taga kain ng tira-tira, hindi po bantay, but family member. So what is more fitting po, isama natin siya sa tradisyon natin na Miss Santacruzan," QC Veterinary Unit OIC Dr. Rey Del Napoles said.

Among the notable participants was Liesl, who was dressed as the "Reyna Empawratriz" by her fur dad, Eton Concepcion.

Liesl was found with protruding eyes by an animal welfare group before she was adopted by Eton.

"Sumasali kami ng dog fashion events or competition not only to showcase beautiful creations but also to be the voice of the voiceless to always choose compassion," Eton said.

Eton and Liesl received recognition for being the most exceptional participants. —Carby Rose Basina/MGP, GMA Integrated News
