MANILA, Philippines — Carlito Galvez Jr. has resigned as presidential peace adviser, Malacañang confirmed on Tuesday, April 21.
The Palace's confirmation followed reports on Galvez's decision to step down from the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Peace, Reconciliation and Unity.
Galvez, a retired military general and former Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff, had led the peace office under the Marcos administration after also serving in the same role during the Duterte administration.
He had previously submitted a courtesy resignation in May 2025 following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive for a performance assessment of officials. He had said he supported the review as part of the administration’s governance efforts.
The move came days after the resignation of Eduardo Año as National Security Adviser. He was replaced by Eduardo Oban, who was sworn into office on Monday.
Both Galvez and Año held Cabinet posts under former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is now detained under the International Criminal Court in the Hague, Netherlands for crimes against humanity.
