INTRAMUROS EVENINGS

Published July 17, 2025 4:15pm

The Intramuros Administration and Cultural Center of the Philippines are reviving Intramuros Evenings with a special staging of "Ganito Na Kami Noon, Paano Na Ngayon?" this Saturday.

The theater show will be held on July 19, 6:30 p.m., at the Centro Turismo de Intramuros and is free on a first-come, first-served basis.

"Ganito Na Kami Noon, Paano Na Ngayon?" is inspired by the works of the late National Artists Eddie Romero (Film), F. Sionil Jose (Literature), and Alejandro Roces (Literature), namely Roces' short story "We Filipinos Are Mild Drinkers," Sionil's novel "Po-on," and Romero's film "Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon?"

The production opened at the CCP in 2024 in celebration of the centennials of Romero, Sionil, and Roces.

"Ganito Na Kami Noon, Paano Na Ngayon?" is written by Jose Victor Torres and directed by Dennis Marasigan. It is about an old farmer named Kulas, who is detained after being suspected of leading the Hukbalahap rebellion.

Intramuros Evenings is a series of outdoor cultural productions under the Intramuros Administration, featuring performances from CCP resident companies like Tanghalang Pilipino, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, and Ballet Philippines. It was launched in 1996 but had to stop operations for numerous reasons.

The program was revived in 2023 and is set to return anew this Saturday.

Centro Turismo de Intramuros is located at the reconstructed San Ignacio Church, Arzobispo Street, Intramuros, Manila.
