HUAWEI Philippines has recently introduced GCash Watch Pay feature allowing for easy, secure QR code-based payments directly from its smartwatches.

Now, this feature is available to more HUAWEI wearables, including the HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate, WATCH GT 4, WATCH GT 5 Series, WATCH D2, WATCH Fit 3, and the HUAWEI Band 10. Future devices will also support the feature.

This collaboration with GCash makes HUAWEI the first to offer QR code payments through wearables in the country.

How to set up Watch Pay on your HUAWEI device

To use GCash on your HUAWEI smartwatch, follow these steps:

  1. Log your HUAWEI ID on their Android or HUAWEI phones. The HUAWEI ID region must be under the Philippines.
  2. Connect HUAWEI Health to your HUAWEI smartwatch.
  3. Log in to your GCash mobile app. Make sure your account is fully verified.
  4. On your HUAWEI smartwatch menu, go to ‘Settings’ and select the ‘Payment’ option.
  5. Find the ‘GCash’ option to install the app on your smartwatch. Open the app once installed.
  6. Enter your GCash pin. Scan the QR code displayed via the GCash mobile app.
  7. Select “Bind” on the GCash mobile app.
  8. Both the GCash mobile app and the watch screen should show that the linking is successful.

After successfully linking a GCash account with a HUAWEI wearable, users can immediately use it to pay using the dynamic GCash QR payment code that will be displayed on the watch.

With just a quick scan at any 7-Eleven, Lawson, Marketplace, Starbucks stores, and other stores that accept QR code-based payments, users can enjoy fast, hassle-free transactions even without their phones or wallets.

HUAWEI dominates wearable market

The rollout of Watch Pay comes after HUAWEI was named the global leader in wrist-worn devices priced under USD 700 in 2024, according to IDC’s latest report. While global wearable shipments dropped by 1.4% year-over-year, HUAWEI saw a 33.6% growth in shipments, maintaining its top spot for the fifth consecutive year.

The company’s diverse range of products, which includes HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate Series, WATCH Series, WATCH GT Series, WATCH Fit and Band Series, and Health and Kids Watch Series features smartwatches and fitness bands, offer advanced capabilities dedicated to fitness, sports, health, and convenience.

HUAWEI has also expanded its TruSense system, which brings more precise health and wellness tracking to its wearables.

GCash x HUAWEI providing safe, convenient payments with Watch Pay

This launch marks the first step in a broader effort by GCash to push QR code payments and digital finance innovations in the Philippines. As the country’s most popular mobile wallet, GCash continues to form partnerships that expand the reach of its services across a variety of devices and platforms.

GCash is one of the Philippines’ most widely used mobile wallets, operated by G-Xchange, Inc. (GXI), a subsidiary of Mynt, the country’s first and only USD 5 billion unicorn.

From pioneering SMS-based payments in 2004 to revolutionizing transactions with QR codes, GCash has eliminated the need for physical wallets. Now, with Watch Pay, GCash takes another leap forward by enabling seamless, wallet-free transactions directly from HUAWEI wearables.

HUAWEI, for its part, is continuing to innovate in the wearable space, offering both advanced health tracking and now, seamless payment options with Watch Pay.
