Barangay Ginebra relied on its strong offensive burst in the middle quarters to survive Phoenix, 119-112, in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup on Friday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The Gin Kings shot a scorching 57.1 percent from three-point zone after knocking down 16 of its 28 attempts, aiding them well in establishing their biggest lead at 22 points, before holding off the Fuel Masters' late-game charge in the payoff period.

The charges of coach Tim Cone improved to 4-2 overall to pull even at joint third spot with San Miguel.

Phoenix fell to 2-5.

Ginebra's dismantling of Phoenix had a lot to do with its 33 assists, thanks to former league Most Valuable Player Scottie Thompson, who finished with 13 dimes, while scoring 17 points.
