MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go urged Filipinos to remain united and continue praying for former president Rodrigo Duterte during the celebration of the latter’s 81st birthday in Davao City on Saturday.

Supporters of Duterte marked his birthday with a solidarity walk alongside the celebration of the 89th Araw ng Dabaw.

The activity was distinct from the regular Araw ng Dabaw civic parade held earlier in the day, while the solidarity walk was organized specifically for Duterte’s birthday celebration.

The walk, which started along Roxas Avenue toward Rizal Park in San Pedro Square, drew supporters from across Mindanao.

The event unfolded amid ongoing developments about Duterte’s situation abroad, which has been keeping him away from his home in Davao.

In his speech, Go recalled Duterte’s ties with Muslim Filipinos and noted the former president’s consistent approach to inclusivity and equal treatment.

He cited instances when Duterte personally directed efforts to assist marginalized Muslim communities.

Go described the moment as the most difficult birthday that Duterte has celebrated, saying the former president prefers a simple and private celebration.

He thanked local officials, residents and supporters who attended the event.
