MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go has solidified his position as the most preferred Senate bet in Pulse Asia’s recent survey.

The April 20 to 24 survey showed Go leading 14 candidates within statistical chances of securing a seat.

A close ally of detained former president Rodrigo Duterte, Go obtained the support of 62.2 percent of respondents, almost 20 points ahead of ACT-CIS Rep. Erwin Tulfo, who garnered the support of 42.4 percent.

Former Senate president Vicente Sotto III (41.1 percent), Sen. Ronald dela Rosa (41 percent), Sen. Bong Revilla (35.6 percent), former senator Panfilo Lacson (33.8 percent), media personality Ben Tulfo and Sen. Lito Lapid followed.

Makati Mayor Abby Binay, Sen. Pia Cayetano, television host Willie Revillame, Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar and former senators Manny Pacquiao and Bam Aquino are also within the winning margin.

Most of the 14 candidates are part of the President Marcos-backed Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas.

Go and Dela Rosa are with Duterte’s PDP-Laban, while Ben Tulfo and Revillame are independent bets.

Villar is officially part of Alyansa, but she has been skipping the administration slate’s rallies and earlier obtained the support of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Trailing frontrunners are Sen. Imee Marcos, PDP-Laban bets Phillip Salvador and Rodante Marcoleta, former interior secretary Benhur Abalos and former senator Francis Pangilinan.

Leading party-lists

As for the party-list race, 46 groups have chances of securing at least one seat based on the Pulse Asia survey.

Duterte Youth is leading the list with 5.57 percent, followed by Agimat (5.52 percent), ACT-CIS (5.17 percent), 4Ps (4.85 percent), Senior Citizens (4.55 percent) and Tingog (3.63 percent).

Uswag Ilonggo (2.48 percent), PPP (2.38 percent), Nanay (2.28 percent), Ako Bicol (2.2 percent), Asenso Pinoy (2.19 percent) and Ako Bisaya (2.08 percent) followed.

Other groups that can secure seats are 4K, 1-Rider, Coop-Natco, Malasakit@Bayanihan, FPJ Panday Bayanihan, Bicol Saro, Agap, United Senior Citizens, Galing sa Puso, One Coop, Solid North, Kalinga, Trabaho, Abang Lingkod, Damayang Filipino, Magsasaka, Swerte and Tupad.

CIBAC, Batang Quiapo, TODA Aksyon, TGP, OFW, Ang Probinsiyano, Alona, Ahon Mahirap, BHW, CWS, ACT Teachers, Angat, Kabataan, Apat-Dapat, Abamin and Babae Ako were also included.

Some 155 party-list groups are participating in the midterm polls.

Voter preference

Go posted a three-percent increase in voter preference based on Tangere’s April 29 to May 3 final senatorial preferential survey.

Consistent with the previous week's survey, Go ranked 1-3 in all 17 regions of the country, obtaining the support of 62.8 percent of respondents.

Erwin Tulfo followed with 54.2 percent, driven by voters in Northern Luzon, Central Luzon and Metro Manila.

Dela Rosa ranked third with 48 percent, driven by strong support from Northern Mindanao and Caraga.

Sotto (46.50 percent), Cayetano (41.6 percent), Revilla (41 percent), Abalos (40.7 percent), Lapid (40 percent), Lacson (39 percent), Sen. Francis Tolentino (34.3 percent), Pacquiao (34 percent), Binay (33.8 percent) and Villar (33.5 percent) followed.

Ben Tulfo ranked 4th-5th with 46.2 percent, driven by Metro Manila, the Visayas and Mindanao votes.

Former senator Bam Aquino ranked 11th overall with 34.9 percent. Senator Marcos ranked 12th to 19th with 32.5 percent.

The Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food Inc. (PCAFI) is supporting the candidacies of Pangilinan, Aquino, Lacson, Sotto and Abalos.

Sinag endorses 5 bets

Farmers’ group Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (Sinag) endorsed over the weekend five senatorial candidates for their “unwavering commitment” to advancing local agriculture and protecting farmers’ interests.

Senators Imee Marcos and Bong Revilla, former senator Panfilo Lacson, Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar and former interior secretary Benhur Abalos were endorsed by the group.

“They have supported crucial legislation, including the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act and Rice Tariff Law, which increased farmer allocations to P30 billion annually,” said Sinag chair Rosendo So.

If elected, the group is expecting the endorsed candidates to advocate for lower production and fuel costs through subsidies, address high electricity rates and support the reversion of rice tariffs to 35 percent.

Progressive group Akbayan has emerged as the top choice among youth voters in the Center for Student Initiatives (CSI) final party-list preferential survey.

The group secured 20.75 percent of intended votes from respondents aged 18 to 25.

Mamamayang Liberal ranked second with 9.3 percent, followed by Kabataan with 8.73 percent – a sharp decline from 19.61 percent in CSI’s March survey. — Jasper Emmanuel Arcalas, Delon Porcalla, Mark Ernest Villeza, Christine Boton
