GSIS celebrates 20 Years of art advocacy, hails new national art tilt winners

THE Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) recognized outstanding Filipino creativity and talent as it announced the winners of its 20th National Art Competition, celebrated in a ceremony at the GSIS Gymnasium. This year's competition reached a historic milestone, drawing more than 1,000 entries from artists nationwide.

In the Representational category, Crispin Tuazon claimed top honors with his entry "Mang Jose." He was followed by Ma. Jezshell Nicole Asares, awarded second place for "Manpower," and Godofredo Orig, who took third place for "Panalangin Para sa Bayan." Their achievements highlight the breadth of talent participating in this year's competition.

The Non-Representational category also showcased remarkable artistry. Leading the pack was Oliver Marquez, whose work "Time Distortion" earned the highest distinction in this category. The second spot went to Danilo Delos Reyes Jr. for "Mga Pangarap na Bituin," while Davidson Tiongson's "Gathering" rounded out the top three.

"Mula 2004, ang GSIS National Art Competition ay nagsisilbing pambansang plataporma para sa mga baguhan at beteranong alagad ng sining. Mahalaga ang papel nito sa pagkilala at pagsulong ng Filipino artists — marami sa ating mga dating kalahok ay hinahangaan na ngayon sa lokal at pandaigdigang art scene (Since 2004, the GSIS National Art Competition has served as a national platform for emerging and veteran artists. It plays a vital role in the recognition and advancement of Filipino artists — many of our past participants are now admired in the local and international art scene)," GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said.

Now in its 20th year, the GSIS National Art Competition continues to open its doors to all Filipino citizens aged 18 and above, drawing both established and emerging artists. Finalists were selected by a distinguished panel of jurors from the local art community.

A vital partner through the years, the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP) has long worked hand in hand with the GSIS to mount this annual event, ensuring its continued growth, inclusivity, and prestige in the Philippine art scene.

AAP President Fidel Sarmiento commended GSIS's dedication, saying, "Thank you for your unwavering support for Philippine art and culture. GSIS's passion for the arts is a gift to the nation."

The winning artworks and selected finalists will be exhibited at the GSIS Museum, home to the institution's growing permanent art collection. Located at the GSIS Financial Center in Pasay City, the museum is open to the public for free and continues to celebrate Filipino creativity and expression.
