HUAWEI has introduced HarmonyOS PC at a recent conference, expanding their operating system ecosystem across all their consumer devices. This includes smartphones, tablets, wearables, smart displays, and now computers.
The OS is built on HUAWEI’s proprietary “Harmony base”. This features the brand’s own development tools, kernel, programming language, and security architecture.
Unlike Android or Windows, HarmonyOS PC was built as an independent platform. This move was influenced by past trade restrictions.
A key focus during the reveal was security. The conference saw HUAWEI reveal features like app verification, developer authentication, and strict permission controls.
In addition, HarmonyOS PC also includes a privacy mode. This lets users block the use of cameras, microphones, and location access. Plus, it offers hardware-level encryption to protect data even if the hard drive is removed.
The OS also highlighted productivity features like cross-device collaboration, cloud sync, and AI integration. Enterprise solutions are also in the works, supported by cloud platforms and management tools.
HarmonyOS PC is launching on May 19. However, developer support and device compatibility have yet to be seen in the market for now.

Communication graduate, closet cynic, and kid at heart. Duane is a rare person to find, quite literally. He often takes to himself but has proven his mettle in tech media with his quick wits. Well, the portfolio of scriptwriting, web content, and public relations help too, we suppose. As a homebody, he often spends his time on the streaming platform Twitch or ‘farming’ gaming clips with friends. He is also an avid fan of round glasses and anything relative to blueberries.
