A low pressure area (LPA 08i) is being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 2 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2026.

MANILA, Philippines — Several areas in Luzon, including Metro Manila, are expected to experience heavy rains on Friday, August 28, as the southwest monsoon or habagat continues to affect the country, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
As of 5 a.m. on Friday, PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said that heavy rains are likely over Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, parts of Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Occidental Mindoro.
The affected areas in Central Luzon include Bataan and Zambales.
The rest of Luzon will generally have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, particularly over the eastern portion of the island, Badrina said.
Palawan and the Visayas may likewise experience cloudy weather with chances of scattered rain showers.
Meanwhile, Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers.
Badrina said Mindanao is not expected to experience prolonged rainfall, with relatively warm weather prevailing over the island.
LPA monitored inside PAR
As of 2 a.m. Friday, August 28, PAGASA was monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
The LPA, designated LPA 08i, has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, PAGASA said.
Heavy rainfall
PAGASA's heavy rainfall outlook due to the southwest monsoon showed that several areas could receive 100 to 200 millimeters of rain, while others may record 50 to 100 mm from Friday through Sunday.
For Friday, August 28, rainfall of 100 to 200 mm is possible over:
- La Union
- Benguet
- Bataan
- Zambales
- Occidental Mindoro
Meanwhile, 50 to 100 mm of rain may be recorded in:
- Ilocos Sur
- Abra
- Pangasinan
- Pampanga
- Tarlac
- Nueva Ecija
- Bulacan
- Metro Manila
- Rizal
- Cavite
- Batangas
- Oriental Mindoro
- Antique
For Saturday, August 29, the areas that may receive 100 to 200 mm of rainfall are:
- La Union
- Benguet
- Bataan
- Zambales
- Occidental Mindoro
PAGASA also expects 50 to 100 mm of rain over:

- Ilocos Sur
- Abra
- Pangasinan

PAGASA said forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas.
The weather bureau also warned that the impacts of the rains in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall, or rain that has already fallen in the affected areas.
