Roger Pogoy, Poy Erram, and Calvin Oftana combine for 94 points as TNT Tropang Giga stretch their winning run to four games in the PBA Philippine Cup
MANILA, Philippines – The TNT Tropang Giga banked on the trio of Roger Pogoy, Poy Erram, and Calvin Oftana as they turned back the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters for their fourth straight win, 111-103, in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Wednesday, May 21.
Pogoy, Erram, and Oftana combined for 94 points of TNT’s total output as the Grand Slam-seeking Tropang Giga moved up to a 4-3 card after three straight losses to start the conference.
Coming off a 34-point performance in their last game, Pogoy remained on fire and sizzled for 35 points this time around on 13-of-21 shooting.
Meanwhile, Erram finished with a new career-high 31 points after going 10-of-12 from the field and 10-of-12 from the free throw line.
Oftana, for his part, exploded for 28 points, with 13 of those coming in the fourth and final period.
With the Elasto Painters on top, 84-79, with 10 minutes left in the game, Oftana knocked down back-to-back triples to put the momentum on the side of the Tropang Giga, who trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half.
The game knotted at 86-all, TNT then unleashed a massive 15-3 run, capped by a Pogoy jumper at the 4:20 mark for a comfortable 101-89 edge.
A basket by Gian Mamuyac pulled Rain or Shine back within single digits, 101-92, before Oftana nailed another three-pointer to put the Elasto Painters away for good with under three minutes to play.
Andrei Caracut paced the Elasto Painters with 20 points, while Mamuyac and Jhonard Clarito came up with 18 and 17 markers, respectively.
With the loss, Rain or Shine — which previously dealt the Magnolia Hotshots their first loss of the conference — fell to an identical 4-3 record as TNT.
Earlier, defending Philippine Cup champion Meralco Bolts snapped their two-game losing skid after a 103-85 rout of the Blackwater Bossing.
Chris Newsome led five Meralco players in double-digit scoring with 19 points, while CJ Cansino stepped up with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Chris Banchero put up 13 points, Raymar Jose contributed 12, while Brandon Bates chipped in 10 markers as the Bolts improved their record to 4-5 after suffering back-to-back blowout losses to the Tropang Giga and the Hotshots.
Meralco spoiled the solid performance of Christian David, who posted game-highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds for Blackwater.
