MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos will spend quality time with his family during the Lenten break, according to Malacañang.

Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro declined to provide details, but she said the President will still have engagements, including meetings at the Palace, until Holy Wednesday.

“We asked him and he said he will spend his time with his family. I can’t give any more details, that’s all,” Castro said at a press briefing yesterday.

“He will spend time with his family during Holy Week, most probably starting Thursday. He will give his family time so they can be together because our President is very busy with his activities,” she added.

In his Lenten message released on Palm Sunday, Marcos called on Filipinos to remain optimistic and resilient in the face of trials, reminding them that their limitations are not hurdles to pursuing greater causes.

Marcos said Jesus fulfilled His mission and endured hardships and suffering, “all in the name of love.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte urged Filipinos yesterday to draw healing from reflections on Christ’s passion and death during this Holy Week amid the “deep divide” the country is experiencing.

Duterte said Holy Week should be an opportunity for every Filipino to reflect on the life and passion of Christ.

“I join the Filipino people in praying, fasting and opening our hearts this Holy Week,” she said.

“May the sacrifice of Jesus serve as a light to us and strengthen our faith in times when we become weak, lose hope or are filled with burdens, anger and desires against our fellow man,” she added.

The Vice President said Filipinos should embrace and re-examine their values this Lent, so they can be united in “overcoming darkness.”

“As the nation suffers severe trials and the division deepens, Lent is an invitation for a time of healing, conversion and a re-examination of our Filipino values: compassion, faith and unity,” she said.

“May we imitate Jesus’ love for us – teach it, spread it and use it in our advancement and strengthening of communities that believe, serve others and serve the nation,” she added.
