MANILA, Philippines — The four House special committees that investigated extrajudicial killings of the previous administration and the P612.5-million unaccounted intelligence funds of Vice President Sara Duterte are expected to release their reports before Congress adjourns next week.
The committee on good government and public accountability headed by Manila 3rd district Rep. Joel Chua will resume its hearing today, while the tri-committee led by outgoing Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez will hold its own tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the quad committee presided over by outgoing Surigao del Norte 2nd district Rep. Robert Ace Barbers has set a hearing on June 9, while that of the quinta committee presided over by outgoing Albay 2nd district Rep. Joey Salceda will be on June 11.
The main agenda of the quinta comm is the deliberation of House Resolution 254 aimed at addressing rampant smuggling in the country’s agricultural sector.
Priority bills
Speaker Martin Romualdez on Monday called on his colleagues in the House to pass the three remaining bills in the legislative agenda of President Marcos, even as they already have a 95 percent legislative output.
The three priority bills are: the Open Access in Data Transmission Act, the E-Governance Act and the Philippine legislation on Artificial Intelligence.
“Let us pass the first-ever Philippine legislation on AI – to embrace innovation, while protecting ethics, privacy and human dignity,” he said.
Romualdez reported 13,868 measures filed during the 19th Congress, between July 25, 2022 and May 28, 2025.
Of this number, 11,506 were bills, while 2,361 were various forms of resolutions.
The chamber also submitted 1,451 committee reports and ultimately approved 1,493 measures on final reading, including 280 Republic Acts – 93 national and 187 local laws.
