MANILA, Philippines — From a young age, Gayle Guansing was fascinated by jewelry and was always interested in how each piece was created.

Looking back, Guansing would admire the rich workmanship and stories, assuring herself that one day she would start her own fine jewelry brand.

She was so passionate that she opted to refine her skills at the Gemological Institute of America, where she received all of the necessary information. But the artistry, creativity and vision have always been in her.

Guansing began designing jewelry in 2014, a year when her path began to clear, refining her entrepreneurial skills while also building her design portfolio and crafting pieces for clients on the side.

Despite having less-than-ideal funding, she took the risk of establishing her business online in 2015, using social media channels and a specialized website to reach a larger audience.

“While making entrepreneurial decisions is crucial, artistry, emotional connection, and the joy of bringing beauty into people's lives are just as important,” she said.

After running her online business alone until 2024, the jewelry designer formally launched a showroom at Rockwell in Makati City in 2025.

GoldandStones specializes in custom-made jewelry and expertly crafted pieces using the finest gemstones and materials acquired from all around the world.

There is a limit to production. Many pieces are exceptional created with care and attention to detail in collaboration with local and international artists.

Her signature "Birthday Collection" was originally intended as a gift for herself. However, when clients and friends noticed and wanted to buy, she expanded it into a complete collection.

All of the jewelry pieces in her showroom at 8 Rockwell and pop-up store at Power Plant Mall are expertly designed, combining true artistry and craftsmanship.

The GoldandStones founder designs eye-catching earrings, exquisite necklaces, timeless bracelets, and stunning rings.

“Excellence is the cornerstone for me, not a choice. Each piece needs to feel substantial, be constructed with integrity, and have a weight that serves as a reminder that it is meant to last. Beyond what the human eye can perceive, my creations transcend beauty. It's my non-negotiable and something I never compromise on,” she said.

Guansing was one of the few designers invited to participate at Milan Jewelry Week in 2023.

The exhibit, which showcased her creations under GoldandStones by Gayle, emphasized her distinctive style of combining refined design with thoughtful storytelling. Each piece, created in solid gold and encrusted with precious jewels, exemplified her idea of creating modern heirlooms with both character and purpose.

Being a part of Milan Jewelry Week was more than an accomplishment for Guansing; it was an acknowledgment that Filipino craftsmanship and design are among the best in the world.

“Colored gemstones such as rubies, sapphires, and emeralds are in high demand. Jewelry is perceived as a portable store of value, particularly in uncertain markets. Fine jewelry, unlike seasonal fashion, is timeless and relevant. Many pieces have high resale potential, sometimes outperforming handbags. Rising gold prices bolster its status as a safe-haven asset,” she said.
