MANILA, Philippines — The Palace on Wednesday, February 4, welcomed the House of Representatives’ junking of the impeachment charges filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the committee level, saying they held no merit from the start.
In a media interview, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said that Marcos was pleased that the process was followed properly.
“Nakita po natin na talagang wala naman pong merito ang nasabing mga complaints at miski po ang pangulo ay kumpyansa na wala siya pong ginawang anumang impeachable offense,” Castro said.
(We saw that there really was no merit to the said complaints and even the president is confident that he had no impeachable offense.)
Quoting Marcos, Castro said, “Let’s move forward.”
Castro said that she hoped that the public was watching so that they saw how each of the accusations against the President was debunked.
The Palace executive denied that Marcos held influence over the House of Representatives, even if his son Sandro Marcos was the Majority Leader.
The House Committee on Justice deliberated on the two impeachment complaints filed against Marcos. While the complaints were sufficient in form, they were declared insufficient in substance.
