Chicken inasal (lower) led Southeast Asia’s rankings and secured 3rd place as a global favorite, while chicken adobo held the 6th spot for the region and 40th in global rankings.
MANILA, Philippines — Food website TasteAtlas listed the Philippines’ chicken inasal and adobo among the world’s best chicken dishes in its April 2026 catalogue, elevating Filipino culinary traditions on the global stage.
The Western Visayas staple inasal na manok, recognized for its smoky aroma and vibrant flavor, led Southeast Asia’s rankings and secured third place as a global favorite with a 4.4 rating.
This important cultural property of Bacolod features marinated chicken cuts brushed with annatto-infused oil and grilled, giving the chicken an appetizing golden color and a unique peppery flavor.
TasteAtlas described the dish as “usually served alongside annatto-flavored garlic rice and spiced vinegar.”
Inasal na manok was also included in the website’s ranking of best chicken dishes in November 2025, ranking first in Southeast Asia and 10th worldwide.
Meantime, the 4.1-rated adobong manok was also named to the list, holding the sixth spot for Southeast Asia and 40th in the global rankings.
The traditional stew, widely regarded as a culinary symbol of the Philippines, was recognized for its balance of savory, tangy and sweet flavors.
In this dish, the chicken is prepared with garlic, onions, bay leaves, peppercorns, oil, brown sugar, soy sauce and white vinegar.
“The chicken is cut into pieces and marinated in a mixture of all the mentioned ingredients (except oil). It is then cooked in oil over medium heat until browned,” TasteAtlas wrote.
“The rest of the marinade is mixed with water and the mixture is poured over the browned chicken. The dish is simmered over high heat until the chicken is fully cooked,” the food website added.
Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay welcomed the international recognition, stating that Filipino cuisine has always been a powerful expression of identity and a meaningful driver of cultural tourism.
“Each dish carries the stories, traditions and creativity of our people, offering both foreign and local visitors a deeper connection through shared flavors,” Angara-Mathay said.
The Department of Tourism chief also underscored that such recognitions provide opportunities for the culinary industry, from farmers and food producers to chefs and small business owners.
With a 4.28 rating, the Filipino cuisine ranked 25th in the 100 Best Cuisines in the World, based on the 590,228 valid ratings for 18,912 foods in the TasteAtlas database.
The online food and travel guide TasteAtlas, founded in 2018, reviews and ranks global traditional dishes, local ingredients and authentic restaurants based on expert and audience feedback.
