MANILA, Philippines — Irked by their actions, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla wants criminal charges filed against the five volunteer firefighters who were recorded on video stealing bottles of liquor from Landers superstore, which was razed by a fire in Quezon City on Wednesday.
Remulla said he has ordered an investigation into the looting, which happened at the Landers branch in Barangay Pasong Putik.
“Most probably, they will be fired. We will file cases against them,” he said.
In a video uploaded by netizen Johnny Gaw Yu on Facebook, the volunteer firefighters were seen taking bottles of liquor from debris.
Supt. Anthony Arroyo, spokesman for the Bureau of Fire Protection, said they are still waiting for a report from BFP investigators about the incident, including the identities of the firefighters.
The looting by the firefighters has drawn flak from the public.
