MANILA, Philippines — Disney has tapped young actress-singer Kai Montinola to perform a Filipino version of "How Far I'll Go," the popular song from "Moana."

Auli'i Cravalho, the voice actress behind the titular character, originally performed the track for the animated film from 2016, which is getting a live-action version later this month with Catherine Laga'aia taking on the lead role.

The local rendition of  "How Far I'll Go" by Kai is titled "Hangganan Ko" and will be available digitally beginning July 3, less than a week before the live-action "Moana" premieres in Philippine cinemas.

"My favorite part of Moana's journey is that she didn't think she was perfect, she doubted at first, but she chose that fear. She chose to seize that fear, and there she was destined to do greater things," Kai said in a statement.

Allie Benedicto, Disney's marketing director for Emerging Southeast Asia, noted the movie has always resonated with Filipinos through its themes of family, courage, and connection to the ocean. They are thrilled to collaborate with Kai.

"Kai embodies today's young Filipinos who are full of grit yet filled with warmth, making her the perfect fit to sing 'Hangganan Ko' meant for today's generation of Disney fans and movie-goers," Benedicto added.

The "Pinoy Big Brother" alumna will perform the new track in shows at SM Mall of Asia and SM Seaside Cebu on July 8 and July 12, respectively, with a music video to come out soon.

Back in 2016, Janella Salvador was tapped for a localized version of "How Far I'll Go." For "Moana 2," Belle Mariano performed "Anong Daratnan?" — the Filipino version of "Beyond" from the 2024 film.

Joining Laga'aia in the live-action "Moana" are Dwayne Johnson and Jemaine Clement, reprising their voice roles of Maui and Tamatoa from the animated movies.

Other confirmed cast members are John Tui and Frankie Adams as Moana's parents, Tui and Sina, as well as Rena Owen as Moana's grandmother Tala.
