Sparkle GMA artists Gabbi Garcia and Mavy Legaspi are the newest and welcome additions to the growing family of hosts of the reality TV show, “Pinoy Big Brother” (PBB), particularly for the upcoming edition, “PBB: Celebrity Collab.” It will premiere on March 9.
Yes, it’s the most recent collaboration between GMA and ABS-CBN, which started the show exactly 20 years ago, and a gathering of their talents.
Given their knack for hosting, Gabbi and Mavy will hold their own as they work with the “PBB” alum and veteran presenters. They are game to help the audience get to know more about the housemates and narrate the latter’s stories inside Bahay ni Kuya, the Big Brother house.
Gabbi will be known as the “Kapuso It Girl ni Kuya,” while Mavy is “Ang Kapuso Royal Tropa ni Kuya.”
“I’ll be part of the ‘PBB Updates,’ that’s every day, Mondays to Fridays,” said Gabbi of her hosting tasks in a recent press conference.
“We have three minutes in the morning and also in the afternoon. I’m also gonna be part of some of the primetime (presentation), from Mondays to Fridays, and also the weekend shows,” added she.
As for Mavy, he will be seen in the “PBB” official online tambayan (or hangout) with Kapamilya artist and former “PBB” (“Kumunity”) housemate Alexa Ilacad.
“It’s an honor to be an online host together with ‘architect’ Alexa,” said he, “kasi parang alam niya yung structure ng bahay ni Kuya (she seems to know every nook and cranny of Big Brother’s house)… Kami ni Alexa, kami na ang bahala sa online ‘coz, of course, ‘PBB’ has so much fans (me and Alexa will take care of the program’s online part because the show has so many fans).”
The young talents will also read a variety of comments from viewers and netizens.
“We also just wanna give our pointers to help our housemates and, of course, direct a certain attention for the audience, for the people watching ‘PBB,’” shared Mavy, “and to create an atmosphere, a healthy one.”
He added that such a healthy environment is for the housemates, the hosts and the viewers.
Gabbi and Mavy were a picture of enthusiasm and happiness during the group chat with the press and thrilled to get the ball rolling for them as hosts.
“So, I’m really excited and I’m really looking forward to that, that I and Alexa (will present the program in the) online gig. So that’s during commercial breaks. We’re gonna see the comments, read them, we’re gonna talk about (them), kung anuman ang nangyari sa bahay ni Kuya that week (whatever would happen in that particular week),” shared he.
“So, I’m looking forward to it. I’m really looking forward to it!”
With her “PBB” updates and primetime assignments, Gabbi had this to say: “(It’s) super, super exciting, mabigat na tasks (they’re huge tasks), but I’m very, very game and I’m looking forward to learning from my co-hosts.”
Speaking of the “PBB Collab” headliners, the latest edition also features Bianca Gonzalez, Robi Domingo, Kim Chiu, Enchong Dee, Melai Cantiveros and Alexa.
In the presscon, Gabbi was also inquired about her preparations for the hosting tasks ahead.
“I’ve been watching the past seasons… pinag-aaralan ko din siya (I studied how the show was presented),” said she, adding that a lot of people had been tagging her on TikTok clips or videos of Bianca, Robi, Melai and Alexa to help her in hosting “PBB.”
“I’m a student of Tito Boy. I’ve been talking to him constantly,” said Gabbi, who was referring to TV talk show host Boy Abunda. “Actually, we had a phone call the other night. He’s been telling me to go to him, so we can study the materials and he also told me that ‘Bianca is also my student. If you have anything, if you have problems, if you have any questions,’ I can go to her (Bianca).”
Part of finding her foothold in hosting “PBB” is getting tips from its hosts.
“Every time we see each other, I always ask tons of questions,” said she. “I always ask how’s the schedule and how do you, guys, do it? Do you have any tips for me? and they’ve been very, very generous with all the information and all the knowledge… So, I’m excited to learn more.”
