Kara David on being viral on social media: "Madumi utak n'yo!"

Multi-awarded broadcast journalist Kara David has recently gone viral on social media, thanks to her humorous soundbites from her Pinas Sarap episodes, where she usually immerses in communities to feature local delicacies.

In an interview with The GMA Pinoy TV Podcast hosted by Tonie Pua, Kara shared that she’s aware of her clips making the rounds online, with some netizens playfully attributing double meanings to her comments.

“Hindi ko po sinasadya. Siyempre ngayon nakikita ko na, ‘di ba? Pero honestly, hindi ko alam kung ano ‘yung magba-viral at ano ‘yung hindi magba-viral. Hindi ko alam. Hanggang ngayon, may gagawin akong video tapos parang, ha? Bakit ang daming views nito?”

For her, it all stems from the genuine joy she feels during each visit, interacting with locals and discovering regional flavors.

“Basta ini-enjoy ko lang ‘yung buhay. Ganoon lang ako talaga. Parang, o sige, lulusong ka na rito. Hindi ko na iniisip kung ano bang mangyayari dito, ano ‘yung story. Basta, I just immerse myself. I just enjoy whatever is there. Ano ‘yung ihain ninyo sa akin, kakainin ko ‘yan.”

She understands that people will always interpret her words in different ways, which reminds her to be mindful of what she says.

“Lahat na lang ng words ngayon, isini-censor ko sa sarili ko. ‘Pag sinabi kong malaki, ganoon na naman. Pag kumain, iba na naman iisipin nila. Lahat na lang ng adjective, nilagyan na ng meaning. Mahaba, malaki. Pag maliit naman sinabi ko, meron din. Grabe, lahat ginawan ng meaning. Madumi utak n’yo!” she laughingly said.

Still, she appreciates social media even more for giving her the space to be her authentic self.

“‘Yung parang, eh, ganito talaga ako, eh. ‘Yung walang facade, ‘di ba? And that's what I also like with I-Witness kasi, nai-explore ko naman sa I-Witness ‘yung aking compassionate and intuitive self. ‘Yung innate curiosity ko, lamalabas naman sa I-Witness.”
