MANILA, Philippines — A fourth suspect in the killing of Police Senior Master Sgt. Diane Marie Mollenido and her son, John Ysmael, has surrendered to police, authorities said.
The suspect, identified as the sister of one of the earlier suspects, surrendered to the National Capital Region Police Office on Monday, February 2.
In a report by GMA News, the suspect said she decided to surrender because of her conscience.
"Hindi na po kasi kaya ng konsensiya ko," she said. (My conscience can no longer bear it.)
Following her surrender, police held a closed-door conference to discuss developments in the case.
Other suspects arrested. The Philippine National Police said the three other suspects were arrested on January 31.
They were identified as a 29-year-old car agent, a 44-year-old dismissed police officer, and a helper. All three are under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit at Camp Karingal in Quezon City.
At a press briefing Monday, PNP Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police have already established the motive behind the killing.
"We have significant update on that and we have the names already about who are involved and the motive," Nartatez said.
He added that details of the motive will be disclosed on Tuesday, February 3.
Discovery of bodies. Mollenido and her son went missing on January 16 after meeting the car sales agent suspect in Quezon City to sell a private vehicle.
They were reported missing on January 19 by Mollenido's husband, John Mollenido.
Mollenido's decomposed body, wrapped in cloth, black garbage bags, and plastic, and bearing a gunshot wound to the head, was found on January 25 in a creek along the Pulilan–Baliuag Bypass Road in Bulacan.
Ysmael's body, also wrapped in plastic tape, was discovered on January 29 at a calamansi farm in Victoria, Tarlac.
