THE Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines shared key updates on several major initiatives strengthening bilateral ties. Korea has emerged as the top foreign investor in the Philippines for the first half of 2025, according to PEZA, with P72.4 billion in total foreign investments. Korean investments reached $16.92 million in Q1 alone, a 4,000-percent increase year-on-year, largely driven by the Korea-Philippines FTA and Philippine efforts like the Create More Act.

Korea will host the 2025 APEC Summit under the theme “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow,” continuing its long-standing leadership in regional integration. The Korean Embassy also commemorated the 75th anniversary of the Korean War with a wreath-laying ceremony at Libingan ng mga Bayani, honoring Filipino veterans and awarding scholarships to 240 descendants.

In defense, the Philippines signed a $700 million contract for 12 FA-50 aircraft from Korea, furthering military modernization. Korea is also donating 2,016 metric tons of rice to support humanitarian needs in DSWD and BARMM.

Additional cooperation includes the Korea Visa Application Center, which has processed 350,000 visa cases since opening in 2023, and infrastructure support through the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridges and the $905-million Laguna Lakeshore Road Network Project.
