Having supportive parents who truly accept you for who you are is one of the best gifts a child could receive in this life, especially for those who are members of the LGBT+ community.

On social media Thursday, Lea Salonga and her trans child, Nic Chien made headlines after the world-renowned Filipino stage actress announced they have opened up about their "emotional trans journey" to US Magazine People, which described Lea as "a friece ally to her trans child."

People described Lea "a fierce ally to her trans child," while Nic said he was never afraid to open up to his parents about his sexuality and that they are "very accepting."

"She (Lea) just didn't want my life to be as hard as it would be," Nic said.

Lea is among the growing number of Filipino celebrities who understand that love is love no matter what. They have no problem accepting, loving, and supporting their children no matter their sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression, or SOGIE for short.

Check out the list below for celebrity parents who wholeheartedly accept and love their kids in the LGBT+ community.

Gloc-9

In 2024, Gloc-9 revealed that his smash hit “Sirena” — an anthem for the LGBT+ community — is actually a gift for his gay son.

“My son is gay,” Gloc-9 told ABS-CBN back then, admitting he didn't know how to tell his son how much he loved him.

In a "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" episode, the rapper admitted to overthinking the something before its release in 2012. According to Gloc-9, he was afraid that there was going to be some unrelatable bits or offensive remarks in the song's lyrics for the gay community.

"Kung alam n'yo lang kung gaano ako katakot noong time na ni-release naming 'yung kanta," the rapper said.

"Dahil ayaw kong malaman na meron akong nilagay doon na hindi tama," he added.

Jackie Lou Blanco and Ricky Davao

Former couple Jackie Lou Blanco and Ricky Davao's second child Rikki Mae came out to them as a lesbian at different times and in different ways.

Rikki came out to Jackie Lou by introducing her girlfriend, while she came out to her father by writing a heartfelt letter.

According to Jackie Lou, when Rikki told her straight up that she's gay, the actress could only respond with "I know."

But it made her so proud of her daughter. "She's so responsible. Sobrang maalaga," Jackie Lou said.

Meanwhile, Ricky Davao said they immediately accepted Rikki "because I love her, and I respect [her]. So, whatever makes her happy."

K Brosas

In 2020, on K Brosas' birthday, her daughter Crystal came out as a lesbian in public.

In her tell-all that had the commedienne sitting right beside her, Crystal mentioned how she took an unexpected chance to come out to her mother in 2017.

"That time, I cried, and she accepted me with open arms. No judgment, no doubts —only unconditional love. And it was one of the best days of my life," Crystal said.

"And now, look at me. Posting this in public. Letting the world know the real me with my mom by my side," she added.

Given this, Crystal said she will use her platform "in raising awareness and educating the people with the rights we should be granted."

Melanie Marquez

Melanie Marquez may be the disciplinarian type of parent, but when it comes to her children's choices, she is nothing but supportive.

In a "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," Melanie shared that there wasn't much of a reaction from her when Michelle Dee identified herself as bisexual.

“I always believe that where my children be happy, siyempre — alam naman nila ‘yung right and wrong,” Melanie said.

“Hindi ako diktadora eh. Disciplinarian ako pero hindi ako diktadora so, kaya I get along with my children,” she added.

Michelle first came out as bisexual in 2023 when she graced a magazine's cover and said that she grew up in a family filled with "empowered and strong" individuals, most especially her mom. — LA, GMA Integrated News
