MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry has released a registry of certified fireworks manufacturers that passed government quality checks, as it renewed its call for the public to buy only from licensed and properly labeled brands ahead of the New Year.

In an advisory, the DTI reminded consumers to avoid generic or unlabeled fireworks, warning that uncertified products pose higher safety risks.

“Buy only from licensed manufacturers. Avoid generic fireworks without labels identifying the manufacturer,” the DTI said.

The agency said all legitimate fireworks and pyrotechnic products must carry the Philippine Standard Quality (PS) Mark, issued by the DTI’s Bureau of Philippine Standards, as proof that they passed safety and quality evaluations.

Injuries already recorded

The safety reminder comes as the Department of Health reported 112 firecracker-related injuries recorded nationwide since December 21, according to a report released Sunday, December 28.

Health officials have repeatedly urged the public to avoid using firecrackers altogether and to opt for safer alternatives to prevent injuries, especially among children.
