Here's a list of vehicles exempted from the odd-even coding scheme along EDSA

MANILA, Philippines – Fewer vehicles will be allowed to ply EDSA as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) enforces a new odd-even coding scheme starting June 16 as EDSA undergoes rehabilitation.

Under the scheme, vehicles with plate numbers ending in odd digits (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) will be barred from using EDSA on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Those with plate numbers ending in even digits (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) will be restricted on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. There will be no coding on Sundays.

During the initial one-month implementation, no penalties will be issued. Instead, MMDA officers will flag down and inform violators, directing them to take alternative routes.

Exempted vehicles

The following vehicles will be exempt from the coding scheme:

  • Electric, plug-in hybrids, and hybrid vehicles under the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act
  • Motorcycle and non-motorized vehicles
  • Emergency vehicles, like ambulances, fire trucks, and police mobile units
  • Public utility vehicles, like city buses, jeepneys, and taxis
  • Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) or app-based ride-hailing vehicles (including delivery riders)
  • Authorized marked government vehicles with official plates and used for essential services

Vehicles simply crossing EDSA — such as using an intersecting road to pass through — will not be penalized under the new number coding scheme.

Those who will violate the number coding scheme will be fined P500.

MMDA Chairman Don Artes said on Tuesday, May 27, that had coordinated with ride-hailing platforms to identify TNVS vehicles.

He said the LTFRB must endorse a list of accredited TNVS drivers, who will then be issued special stickers. These stickers will ensure their exemption from coding enforcement, especially when monitored through CCTV. – Rappler.com
