MANILA, Philippines — The House Justice Committee is set to proceed with its hearing on the verified impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, April 22.
An official from the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) and former senator Antonio Trillanes IV are expected to testify, following subpoenas issued by the House panel in connection with the complaints.
The AMLC, through Chairman Eli Remolona Jr., has been ordered to submit certified copies of reports on covered and suspicious transactions allegedly involving Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, along with other investigation documents.
Lawmakers also directed the AMLC to authenticate its reportorial certifications and submit related financial records involving the vice president, her spouse and business entities linked to them.
Trillanes has also been ordered to present documents tied to allegations of unexplained wealth not reflected in Duterte’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).
He is also expected to testify on his earlier claims of large bank transactions allegedly linked to the vice president.
House public accounts committee chair Terry Ridon said the hearing will center on documentary evidence, stressing that “there is no star witness” and that the records will speak for themselves.
Duterte’s 2024 SALN placed her net worth at P88.5 million, which lawmakers said will be compared with submitted financial documents in determining probable cause.
The impeachment complaints stem from allegations of unexplained wealth and other purported irregularities currently under evaluation by the House justice panel.
