Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin holds another press conference on changes in the Marcos Cabinet in less than a week

MANILA, Philippines — Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin is set to speak to media on Thursday, May 29, to give updates on President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s promised “rigorous performance review” of his administration.

This will be Bersamin’s second press conference on the topic, coming less than a week after he announced the first round of Cabinet changes.

On May 22, Marcos asked all heads of agency, as well as secretary-ranked officials, to hand in their courtesy resignations in a “bold reset” after a devastating loss in the 2025 midterm Senate election. Of 12 seats available, the administration-led coalition only managed to win five seats.

Marcos has already accepted the courtesy resignations of three heads of agency — Foreign Secretary Enrique Manalo, Environment Secretary Toni Loyzaga, and housing czar Jerry Acuzar. Manalo will be the country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Loyzaga will be appointed a post in the future, while Acuzar will be named presidential adviser on Pasig River development, said Bersamin.

Meanwhile, Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla will be taking over an environment chief. As of May 23, only six Cabinet officials are confirmed to have had their resignations rejected and positions retained — Bersamin and the five economic managers in the Cabinet.
