MANILA, Philippines — For compromising passenger safety, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued show-cause orders to four bus companies over violations related to poorly maintained terminals in Quezon City.
In a statement yesterday, LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II said the issuance of the show-cause orders was based on the results of unannounced inspections, which revealed violations of the minimum standards for passenger terminals.
The bus companies are Belleza Transport Corp. and Mega Bus Lines Corp., both operating terminals in Cubao, as well as Eaglestar Transit Corp. and Elavil Phils Tours Inc.
Inspection reports showed that the bus firms committed at least 10 violations of the LTFRB rules on terminal maintenance.
Among the violations were insufficient roofing to protect passengers from the sun and rain; lack of decent toilets for men, women and persons with disabilities; inadequate security measures such as closed-circuit television system and the absence of PWD access ramps.
A consolidated hearing for the four bus firms is set on Feb. 11.
