MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has summoned a bus company following a viral counterflow video in Quezon City.
LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II said the bus encroached on the other lane to overtake despite the presence of an incoming vehicle.
“Netizens who informed us about the video played a key role for us to take action on this incident,” Mendoza said.
In the video, the driver of a private vehicle was seen arguing with the driver of a passenger bus (Sapang Palay-NIA route) who went to the opposite lane to overtake.
The bus driver returned to the proper lane, but was heard arguing with the private vehicle driver.
In the show-cause order sent to San Jose Del Monte Transport Corp., the bus company was ordered to explain why it should not be penalized for hiring a reckless driver.
The bus firm was also asked to submit its drivers’ training program and proof of compliance with diligence.
The LTFRB warned the bus company of consequences if it snubs the hearing set on July 9.
“This is not a minor road infraction. We, in the LTFRB, always consider violations of road safety rules as serious because it involves the life and limb of passengers,” Mendoza said.
More than 700 transport companies have been issued show-cause orders by the LTFRB for road safety and traffic violations.
