Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez and LTFRB chairman Vigor Mendoza II said they were elated with the initiative of Genesis Transport to introduce the hybrid buses to transport commuters to and from Balanga City in Bataan and the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange.

MANILA, Philippines — With the continuing effort to modernize and improve public transportation, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) welcomed last week the entry of 10 hybrid passenger buses in the country.

Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez and LTFRB chairman Vigor Mendoza II said they were elated with the initiative of Genesis Transport to introduce the hybrid buses to transport commuters to and from Balanga City in Bataan and the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange.

Mendoza said a one-kilowatt consumption of the hybrid bus is equivalent to one liter of diesel, adding that the kilowatt cost ranges from only P11 to P13.50 while a liter of diesel would cost P50 or more.

“Imagine the savings in operational costs, not to mention the low maintenance cost (of the hybrid buses),” Mendoza said.
