MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a memorandum granting free medical examination and courier services for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) renewing their driver’s licenses.
The program is being implemented through caravans organized by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) in various countries.
The special program, approved by LTO chief Markus Lacanilao, applies to OFWs who avail themselves of license renewal services during OWWA-DMW caravans held overseas.
The initiative aims to reduce the cost and inconvenience of license renewal for migrant workers.
“Our OFWs continue to sacrifice by working far from their families. This program is a way for the government to show that they are valued,” Lacanilao said in a statement yesterday.
Prior to the program, OFWs spent up to P6,000 for medical examinations and courier services related to license renewal. These fees have been waived under the new LTO initiative.
