MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.8 earthquake rocked Hinatuan town in Surigao del Sur early yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
Phivolcs said the temblor was detected at 133 kilometers northeast off the coast of Hinatuan at 1:53 a.m. with a depth of focus of 20 km.
Intensity 3 was felt in Hinatuan and Bislig City, both in Surigao del Sur.
Netizens from other areas such as Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, Butuan City and Surigao City reported having felt the temblor.
Although Phivolcs does not expect damage from the earthquake, it warned the public of aftershocks.
