MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 6.1 earthquake shook Zamboanga del Norte late Thursday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol said the tremor happened around 11:41 a.m. some two kilometers (kms) southeast of Siocon town, also in the same province.
Tectonic in origin, Bacolcol said it has a depth of focus of 32kms.
Initial report showed that Instrumental Intensity 4 was recorded over Zamboanga City.
Bacolcol said both damage to infrastructure and aftershocks would be likely from the latest Zamboanga del Norte quake.

Earlier on Thursday, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake shook Southern Leyte wherein aftershocks and damage to property were also expected.
