There's no debate about how comforting Mexican food is.
In Metro Manila alone, we've seen a consistent rise in interest in dishes such as tacos, quesadillas, and churros, making enough room for Mexican restaurants to flourish in the vibrant culinary scene of the metro.
Known for being home to diverse culinary concepts, Bonifacio Global City has established itself once again as the destination of choice for those craving Mexican food with the opening of Mamacita on Forbestown Road.
A step inside this new cool spot, and you'll be greeted with a beautiful bar housing hundreds of agave-based spirits sourced directly from Mexico. The first floor is where you let loose and get yourself a drink (or two) of their expertly crafted refreshing cocktails.
Must-try:
El Chapo (P650): Crafted with Derrumbes Durango mezcal blended with Lustau Amontillado sherry and Passionfruit purée, topped with Lime juice and Pandan.
Very Berry (P550): Made with Arette Blanco tequilla blended with Mathilde Blackcurrant liqueur, Strawberry purée, Lime, sugar, and Sal de Jamaica.
But if you want to fill up with food first, the second floor is where you'll find a comfortable spot to indulge in Mexican food.
The space feels lively and open, with large windows offering an expansive outside view. On every corner, you'll see accents inspired by Mexican culture, including countless skull fixtures (Calaveras) as a nod to Mexico's celebration of the Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos).
As for the food, you're in good hands, as the kitchen is led by Chef Charles Montañez, whose expertise goes beyond honest-to-goodness tacos.
Begin with Pico De Gallo (P250) to start your gastronomic experience with crisps, followed by a dip of Guacamole (P550). For something gooey, opt for Chorizo Queso Fundido (P600), a Jalapeño and Chipotle cheese fondue with slices of Mexican chorizo.
It's not a trip to a Mexican restaurant without an order of Elote (P400), and Mamacita's version of one is made with Chipotle mayonnaise, Sesame, Chips, and Seaweed.
As for the tacos, you may choose among Carnitas (Pork), Baja Fish, Carne Asada (beef), Chicken Barbacoa, Campechano (Steak and Mexican Chorizo), and Berenjena (Eggplant), all priced at P240 each.
Similar meat selections are available in a Quesadilla form, including Pork Carnitas, Carne Asada, Chicken Barbacoa, and Mushroom Asada for a meat-free option, all priced at P560 each.
Make sure to leave some space for dessert and choose between (or both) a Piloncillo Ice Cream (P300) and Churros (P350/3pcs.).
Mamacita BGC is open daily from 12 noon to 3 a.m.
