MANILA, Philippines — Police have arrested a 31-year-old man accused of shooting a young female vendor while she was live-streaming on social media in Taytay, Rizal.

The victim, a 23-year-old vendor, was livestreaming in Barangay Sta. Ana on Friday, January 16, when a masked suspect wearing a hat approached her and fired a shot at close range toward her head, according to the Taytay Municipal Police Station.

Police said the suspect calmly walked away after the shooting. Witnesses reported that he later boarded a motorcycle waiting along a secondary road in the same barangay.

The victim was rushed to the nearest hospital, where authorities said the bullet grazed the back of her neck. She is now in stable condition and recuperating at a hospital in Pasig City.

Suspect arrested, motive cited

The Taytay police said they immediately launched a hot pursuit operation, which led to the arrest of the suspect in Angono, Rizal, on Saturday, January 17.

Investigators said the suspect is the former partner of the store owner where the victim works. Authorities said the shooting stemmed from a personal grudge following the couple’s breakup.

Police said the victim had reportedly informed the store owner about the suspect’s other romantic involvements. The store owner later took full control of the business, which investigators said fueled the suspect’s resentment toward the victim.

The suspect is being held at the Taytay police custodial facility and is facing a charge of frustrated murder.

Police said the suspect has denied the allegations and claimed he has witnesses who can attest that he was in Angono at the time of the shooting.
