Mandaluyong Mayor Menchie Abalos distributes Christmas gift packs containing Noche Buena items and emergency go bags to residents yesterday.
Miguel De Guzman
MANILA, Philippines — The Mandaluyong City government yesterday distributed 275,000 Noche Buena packs and emergency go bags to families as part of its annual “Pamaskong Handog” program.
Mayor Menchie Abalos led the distribution in Barangay Hagdan Bato Itaas. She was joined by Vice Mayor Anthony Suva, Rep. Queenie Gonzales and members of the city council.
Each Noche Buena pack contains grocery items for the holidays. The go bags include a basic first aid kit and medicines.
City officials said the Pamaskong Handog tradition began in 1987 under then mayor Ben Abalos.
The local government continued the door-to-door or ayuda-style distribution system first implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, citing its efficiency and orderly delivery to households.
