MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified efforts to identify and arrest people behind the murder of a policewoman and her eight-year-old son, whose remains were found in Bulacan and Tarlac, respectively.

The decomposing body of Senior M/Sgt. Diane Marie Mollenido, a member of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) was found last Saturday in a creek in Pulilan, Bulacan.

Mollenido’s son, John Ysmael, was found in a farm in Victoria, Tarlac on Thursday afternoon.

The boy was wrapped in a garbage bag and packaging tape, police said.

Investigation showed the boy died from asphyxia by suffocation.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. directed his men to find the car dealer tagged as a person of interest in the case.

Mollenido and her son were last seen on the night of Jan. 16, telling relatives they were going to Quezon City.

She was supposed to meet her goddaugher, who is a car dealer in Novaliches.

Mollenido and her son failed to return home, prompting relatives to report them missing to the Taguig police on Jan. 19.

On Jan. 20, Mollenido’s goddaughter reported to the Novaliches police station 4 that the policewoman had sold her car for P450,000 to a certain “Romeo.”

The goddaughter said  Mollenido and her son left in a white Toyota Avanza, which the policewoman booked in a ride-hailing app.

Probers tracked down the Avanza, but the owner of the vehicle denied that the victims had boarded the vehicle.

The Avanza owner told police that her vehicle was not for hire.

Nartatez assured Mollenido’s relatives that the PNP will not rest until the killers are captured and put behind bars.

“Strong words of condemnation are not enough for what they did to one of our own. We will not let this pass and we will hold accountable all those involved,” Nartatez said.

Probers said the goddaughter refused to provide them footage of a closed-circuit television camera installed at the gate of her house.
