MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos yesterday opened the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway-C5 Southlink Segment 3B, which cuts travel time from Parañaque to Bonifacio Global City in Taguig from about one hour to just 15 minutes.?
The segment of the Cavitex will be toll-free until the end of April to accommodate Filipinos traveling home for the Holy Week, the President announced.?Marcos said the expressway would also help motorists save a lot from the soaring fuel prices.
“And it’s no small matter to reduce travel from an hour and a half to 15 minutes. That’s a huge savings,” Marcos told reporters in Filipino.?
Marcos inspected the two-kilometer stretch of Segment 3B with Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon and acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez.?
The opening of CAVITEX C5 Link Segment 3B completes all segments of the CAVITEX C5 Link, which is projected to accommodate around 36,000 vehicles daily.?
Marcos said it supports the government’s Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food and Transport or UPLIFT under Executive Order 110.?
Marcos issued EO 110 on March 24, placing the Philippines under a state of national energy emergency as the continuing conflict in the Middle East has triggered skyrocketing fuel prices and now “pose an imminent danger of a critically low energy supply” to the country.?
“As we are always thinking now because of the conflict in the Middle East, this is a huge savings on gasoline, crude oil, fuel,” the Chief Executive aded.?Lopez said vehicular congestion would be reduced in the Kaingin area and provide motorists with seamless connection from Cavite to C5 Taguig.
It will also provide direct connection to Sucat and Merville in Parañaque.?
Dizon said the Department of Pubic Works and Highways and Department of Transportation would open networks of highways in the coming weeks to reduce travel time and fuel costs for motorists.?
These include the opening of the Central Luzon Link Expressway or CLLEX, connecting Tarlac City to Cabanatuan City on Tuesday, Dizon said.
Dizon said the latest project is part of the government’s effort to open more roads ahead of the Holy Week travel rush.
“The objective, as directed by the President, is to open as many new roads as possible between now and Holy Week. Especially now that fuel prices are high and our people are struggling, we need to keep opening new roads to cut travel time – less travel, less fuel consumption, less expense,” Dizon said. — Rainier Allan Ronda
