Chairpersons, chief executive officers, and members of governing boards are asked to submit their courtesy resignations days after the Marcos Cabinet shake-up
MANILA, Philippines – Just days after asking all government heads of agencies and secretary-ranked officials to hand in their courtesy resignations, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also ordered all ranking executives of Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs) — chairpersons, chief executive officers, directors, trustees, and boards — to do the same.
“As conveyed through the memorandum from the executive secretary dated 21 May 2025, and in line with the President’s announced intention to recalibrate and realign his administration’s policies and priorities with the people’s expectations, the Governance Commission hereby directs all non ex-officio chairpersons, chief executive officers (CEOs) and all appointive directors/trustees/members of GOCC governing boards to immediately submit their respective courtesy resignations to the President through the Office of the Executive Secretary,” the Governance Commission said in a notice dated May 26 but made public through its website on Friday, May 28.
The memo — signed by its chairperson Marius Corpus and commissioners Brian Keith Hosaka and Geraldine Marie Berberabe-Martinez — added that all work will continue until the resignations are accepted by the Office of the President.
All non-ex-officio chairpersons and CEOs are to submit their courtesy resignations to the President through the Office of the Executive Secretary. Appointive directors, trustees, and members of governing boards, meanwhile, are to submit their resignations to the Governance Commission.
All resignations will be decided on by the Office of the President.
The new order comes as Marcos promised to revamp his administration, supposedly to make sure it is “aligned” with what the public wants. This comes at the heels of a devastating loss for the administration and its ruling coalition in the May 2025 elections.
Marcos has also hinted that the revamp could go beyond the Cabinet. – Rappler.com
