MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sought expanded investments from Mitsubishi Corp. on Monday, February 2, to accelerate the government’s railway and subway projects.
In a statement, Marcos said he spoke with Mitsubishi President and CEO Katsuya Nakanishi about exploring investments aimed at accelerating the completion of subway and railway systems, generating jobs, and expanding clean wind energy projects in the provinces.
“These efforts will also strengthen digital services that make everyday transactions easier for Filipinos as we continue building a Bagong Pilipinas,” Marcos said.
Present at the meeting were Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, Ayala Corp. Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel, Trade Secretary Maria Cristina Roque, and Presidential Communications Secretary Dave Gomez.
Mitsubishi Corp. was awarded a contract in 2022 for the integrated railway systems and track work of the Metro Manila Subway.
In May 2025, Mitsubishi and government representatives began construction of a power substation intended to supply electricity for the subway project.
